Small Business Saturday is November 24. Why shouldn’t optometrists take part in this annual event promoting local businesses? We should! Americans are aware of this new shopping holiday that follows the biggest shopping day of the year, the day after Thanksgiving. Let’s be a part of the experience too.

Create a trunk show. If you are on top of your inventory, then you know what optical brands your patients crave most. Based on that, you can create an exciting trunk show on Small Business Saturday featuring a multitude of special frames from brands they love. In addition to new frames, include exciting music, snacks, and drinks to make it a special event.

Start promoting on Instagram NOW. A month before Small Business Saturday, begin by letting your followers know your office will be participating. Once or twice a week, post a photo that promotes why your business is special and how you appreciate your patients. For example, a photo that showcases your amazing optical frames or a picture of happy patients. Also, a gratitude quote for your followers will likely warm your followers’ hearts and make them feel like you are truly thankful for their business.

Buddy up within the community. It is likely that other small businesses will also be participating on November 24, so why not join forces and promote each other? Approach local businesses and strategize on how you can work together to gain more customers on that day. An example of this is teaming up with the neighborhood coffee shop. For every exam or pair of glasses sold, distribute a coupon for a free cup of coffee and the coffee shop can return the favor by carrying your flyer.

No matter how you plan to promote your participation in Small Business Saturday, make sure you are ahead of the game and start in October. The sooner your patients are aware, the better they can plan to support your business.
